KISSIMMEE, Fla. (CBS12) — Gov. DeSantis says Florida’s schools will stay open this spring with parents having the option of choosing between in-person and virtual learning, while calling the closing of schools the biggest “public health blunder” in modern history.
Gov. Ron DeSantis calls the decision to close schools the biggest public health blunder in modern American history during a news conference in Kissimmee.
The governor made the announcement during a news conference on education and COVID-19 from Boggy Creek Elementary School in Kissimmee.
Gov. DeSantis also said parents must be notified if their student is struggling with virtual learning. Those struggling students must return to in-person learning unless their parent affirmatively opts out.
