‘Anti-Semitic’ social media posts cited

Next Target: Lethbridge U Prof. Anthony Hall

Powerful anti-free speech forces struck a major blow against Canadian academe and civil society this week with the firing of a veteran York University laboratory technician from his position in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Canada’s branch of B’nai Brith pointed to controversial social media posts the group deemed anti-Semetic to request York administrators take “real action” against the employee.

Ilana Shneider of CIJ News reports:

In a letter from the Office of the Dean, Faculty of Science at York University which was obtained by CIJnews, Nikolaos Balaskas was terminated for cause effective September 14, 2016 because of “continued conduct, actions and behaviours” which are “unacceptable and inconsistent with your obligations and responsibilities as an employee of York University”.

“This is a very positive step, coming from a university where there have been ongoing, and very public, issues of antisemitism. It is incredibly heartening to see that the administration, in this case, not only took the allegations seriously but took real action to correct the problem,” said Amanda Hohmann, National Director, of The League For Human Rights of B’nai Brith Canada.

Balaskas’ social media posts, some of which were merely “shared” on Facebook, argue that American-Israeli citizens harbor distinct loyalties, and further contend that Zionist elements were behind the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on  the United States.

The militant B’nai Brith Canada, “a leading Jewish advocacy group which combats anti-Semitism and racism,” filed a complaint with York President Mamdouh Shoukri’s office concerning the posts published between 2014 to 2016. Shoukri’s office initiated an inquiry via York’s Human Resources Department, according to B’nai Brith.

On August 31, 2016 Balaskas was put on paid suspension.

In a meeting with York administrators in early September, Balaskas asserted that although he regretted if any of the social media activity impacted York staff or students and noted some of the posts he shared or attempted to share had been deemed “disturbing.” At the same time he maintained that “persons are not forced to read these posts”.

A portion of the posts, Balaskas observes, were blocked by Facebook, yet he attempted to re-post them because he doesn’t “believe in censorship”.

After the September meeting York officials effectively issued Balaskas no trespass and gag orders, stating that he was to no longer frequent university facilities or discuss the matter with any party other than York and union representatives.

The University “investigation” found that Balaskas understood “that his Facebook posts were not restricted and available to the public, and that he knowingly did not limit these posts, which were visible to York students, staff and faculty members,” according to CIJ News.

With Balaskas’ termination B’nai Brith leaders announced the next Canadian academic on their list: Lethbridge University’s Anthony Hall, a professor of political economy and global studies well-known for his public commentary. Hall also co-hosts an online current events program with Islamic Studies scholar Kevin Barrett.

“Unfortunately not every administration is prepared to act with such decisiveness, as the ongoing saga surrounding Prof. Anthony Hall at Lethbridge University shows,” B’nai Brith’s Hohmann said.

“I hope that the administration in Lethbridge can use the excellent example set by York University on this matter, and take appropriate steps to ensure that their students are not similarly subjected to hatred and antisemitism on campus.”

Earlier this year aligned forces forces prompted an investigation of Oberlin assistant professor Joy Karega for remarks made on social media deemed anti-Semitic. In December 2015 the Jewish Forward was instrumental in mobilizing the Jewish community to advocate for James Tracy’s termination from his tenured post at Florida Atlantic University.

  1. and, of course, the sheeple think that Zionists are Semites, but THEY ARE NOT. Zionists are ashkenazi jews that descend from Japheth (see Genesis 10:3) and REAL JEWS (Semites) descend from Isaac or Ishmael.
The zionist/semite RUSE is the biggest CON of our times (even bigger than o’bama!)

  2. I would really like to know the difference between Jews in 1930s Germany being ostracized and marginalized by Nazis and the Neo-Jewish “Nazi’s” of today who absolutely abhor free speech and the marketplace of ideas.

What these Zionists are doing in the sphere of free speech is EXACTLY what they have done for years in the sphere of Palestinian oppression: taking the Nazi playbook used against them and using it against their perceived adversaries.

The Zionists have ZERO moral high ground to stand on when they colluded to destroy the freedoms that Jews were denied not so long ago.

    1. Anthropologically speaking most Semites are not Jews and most Jews are not Semites. How the term “anti-Semite” or “anti-Semitic” was cooked up I’m not sure, nor do I know why they don’t like simply “anti-Jew.

  3. In the literal interpretation; Anti-Semitism is defined as “anti-language base”; simply because “Semite” refers to the language base shared between those who speak ,Hebrew, Arabic or Aramaic and refers to NOTHING ELSE. At the same time while the Jews do not like to admit this fact; the “Jews” lacking a distinctive DNA, cannot claim status as a race. Being a Jew is being a member of a Religion with several denominations and like all other religions, is nothing more than another “human invention”………………………

  4. Isn’t it odd how people never see as something sinister this ability organized Jewry uses to suppress free speech? Even on the political right, most people are programmed to think that raising questions about Jewish influence is off-limits. There is a lack of understanding, combined with an Orwellian crime stop mechanism at work. They don’t know what we want to tell them, and they don’t want to hear it. Instead they cover their ears and then make up their own cartoon version of what they think we want to say.

  5. In addition to the fine article above detailing Nikolaos Balaskas’ case, please read Kevin Barrett’s conclusively argued letter to York University President Mamdouh Shoukri, published at Veterans Today:

I was chagrined to read in the MHB article that Tony Hall will likely be the next target of B’nai Brith. Hall is one of my favorite writers lately, in particular his series at the American Herald Tribune, “9/11 and the Zionist Question” in which he puts “The Kevin Barrett-Chomsky Dispute in Historical Perspective” and asks, “Is Noam Chomsky a Disinfo Agent for Israel?”

In all the pieces mentioned, it’s gratifying to read the eloquent truth, especially knowing it’s written under threat of such vicious consequences.

    1. Kinda reminds one of McCarthyism, wouldn’t you say ? Or what happened in Russia a hundred years ago, where the ZioNazis made it a capital offense to say anything negative about a Jew. Imagine being shot today for saying anything detrimental about Israel ? That’s where it is going folks.

  6. This is a sad day for academia. That sentiment is being evoked all to often these days. I salute this York professor for not believing in censorship. THAT is freedom. Anything less is a sham. World Jewry is taking an exceptionally daft tack in ostensibly preserving their tradition. They should, in fact, be the biggest supporters of sites like CODOH. There is not even the hint of scientific discussion in the tactics of ADL-type organizations. That heavy-handed approach is doomed to fail. Unfortunately for the witch hunt, their mother ship (Israel) is completely void of redeeming qualities. The more that situation becomes exposed by honest humans, the more the tide will turn to the other end of the spectrum (disallowing dual US-Israeli citizens to serve in significant positions of power in American government). –Paul

    1. 37O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling! 38Look, your house is left to you desolate. 39For I tell you that you will not see Me again until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’”…

  7. His firing was the right thing to do, the fact that Kevin Barrett acolytes feel he should have been retained stands on its own as confirmation of this. Very glad everyone here is miserable about it. Looking forward to watching you cry and kick chairs for the foreseeable future (yes, if it isn’t clear yet, I hate you on merit).
