“Conspiracy theory” is a term that at once strikes fear and anxiety in the hearts of most every public figure, particularly journalists and academics. Since the 1960s the label has become a disciplinary device that has been overwhelmingly effective in defining certain events off limits to inquiry or debate. Especially in the United States raising legitimate questions about dubious official narratives destined to inform public opinion (and thereby public policy) is a major thought crime that must be cauterized from the public psyche at all costs.

Conspiracy theory’s acutely negative connotations may be traced to liberal historian Richard Hofstadter’s well-known fusillades against the “New Right.” Yet it was the Central Intelligence Agency that likely played the greatest role in effectively “weaponizing” the term. In the groundswell of public skepticism toward the Warren Commission’s findings on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the CIA sent a detailed directive to all of its bureaus. Titled “Countering Criticism of the Warren Commission Report,” the dispatch played a definitive role in making the “conspiracy theory” term a weapon to be wielded against almost any individual or group calling the government’s increasingly clandestine programs and activities into question.

This important memorandum and its broad implications for American politics and public discourse are detailed in a forthcoming book by Florida State University political scientist Lance deHaven-Smith, Conspiracy Theory in America. Dr. deHaven-Smith devised the state crimes against democracy concept to interpret and explain potential government complicity in events such as the Gulf of Tonkin incident, the major political assassinations of the 1960s, and 9/11.

CIA Document 1035-960 was released in response to a 1976 FOIA request by the New York Times. The directive is especially significant because it outlines the CIA’s concern regarding “the whole reputation of the American government” vis-à-vis the Warren Commission Report. The agency was especially interested in maintaining its own image and role as it “contributed information to the [Warren] investigation.”

The memorandum lays out a detailed series of actions and techniques for “countering and discrediting the claims of the conspiracy theorists, so as to inhibit the circulation of such claims in other countries.” For example, approaching “friendly elite contacts (especially politicians and editors)” to remind them of the Warren Commission’s integrity and soundness should be prioritized. “[T]he charges of the critics are without serious foundation,” the document reads, and “further speculative discussion only plays in to the hands of the [Communist] opposition.”

The agency also directed its members “[t]o employ propaganda assets to [negate] and refute the attacks of the critics. Book reviews and feature articles are particularly appropriate for this purpose.”

1035-960 further delineates specific techniques for countering “conspiratorial” arguments centering on the Warren Commission’s findings. Such responses and their coupling with the pejorative label have been routinely wheeled out in various guises by corporate media outlets, commentators and political leaders to this day against those demanding truth and accountability about momentous public events.

*No significant new evidence has emerged which the [Warren] Commission did not consider.
*Critics usually overvalue particular items and ignore others.
*Conspiracy on the large scale often suggested would be impossible to conceal in the United States.
*Critics have often been enticed by a form of intellectual pride: they light on some theory and fall in love with it.
*Oswald would not have been any sensible person’s choice for a co-conspirator.
*Such vague accusations as that “more than ten people have died mysteriously” [during the Warren Commission’s inquiry] can always be explained in some natural way e.g.: the individuals concerned have for the most part died of natural causes.

Today more so than ever news media personalities and commentators occupy powerful positions for initiating propaganda activities closely resembling those set out in 1035-960 against anyone who might question state-sanctioned narratives of controversial and poorly understood occurrences. Indeed, as the motives and methods encompassed in the document have become fully internalized by intellectual workers and operationalized through such media, the almost uniform public acceptance of official accounts concerning unresolved events such as the Oklahoma City Murrah Federal Building bombing, 9/11, and most recently the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, is largely guaranteed.

The effect on academic and journalistic inquiry into ambiguous and unexplained events that may in turn mobilize public inquiry, debate and action has been dramatic and far-reaching. One need only look to the rising police state and evisceration of civil liberties and constitutional protections as evidence of how this set of subtle and deceptive intimidation tactics has profoundly encumbered the potential for future independent self-determination and civic empowerment.

  1. Thank-you for the new information on the C.I.A. 1035-60 directive. Hofstadter’s fusillades against the invisible ‘New Right.’ in the nineteen sixties becomes visible with the ascent of the “Bush family and cronies” on the week-long activties in the Halloween Massacre of 1975.

  2. covert and then there is overt

      1. You have hit the “nail on the head”. Religion was the first format for gaining control of the mind through fear and indoctirnation. I had come to the realization that religion caused one the inability to take complete responsibility for one’s actions thus hindering the emotional growth of the soul. Institutions ( man-created ) of authority and power only inhibit personal growth and keep the follower in a state of spiritual and emotional infancy. Governments are not unlike religion. They share a great deal in common at their malformed roots.

I find it so odd that we would allow anyone to dictate to us in which manner to live, and worse, what kind of world we would co-create and support.
It appears that the most unevolved souls have created abberant social institutions that pervert and subjugate the population at large. I can see this very clearly when I read comments on the internet. It is appaling how infantile we are in our communication skills. I regularly read comments that are insulting, rude and arrogant. Those in power have done a bang-up job of creating infantile egos that support their infantile vision of authority, and worse, they have created an irrelevant society that wallows in it’s own excrement;” Panem et Circenses”.

Perhaps we are entering a new age of self responsibility that thwarts any attempt to silence or subjugate our personal authority. If this be the case then “Governanace” has no place in such a world. Self-governance is the ultimate power…and they know it.
Please be aware that in order to create a more just and loving society all one must do is simply move in that direction…no need to even pay any attention to” the man behind the curtain “at this point; This alone removes any perceived power that they hold for themselves.
Ignore them and they will go away.

      2. “Government should be purged, period, as in abolished.”

Not only should what you suggest NOT happen, the fact is it CAN’T happen. To anybody repeating this self-defeating non-sense I say; you are wishing for the impossible at the same time you’re unwittingly playing right into the hands of those who are hoping you will voluntarily cast away the very tool that allows YOU to contest with POWER OVER YOU on an anything LIKE equal footing.

Look. Government doesn’t disappear until the third from last person on Earth disappears: as soon as you have GROUP, you have government! PLEASE BE REALISTIC. As Albert Einstein said, human beings owe our success as a species to the fact that we are societal-living creatures. People are ALWAYS going to be getting together to try to organize their affairs so as to maximize the good things in their lives and minimize the bad. You can’t get around that – that’s just a description of the actual situation we find ourselves in as beings living in human bodies on planet Earth.

Write this down – this is your PHD in government study in one sentence: We humans constitute governments as a necessary evil for the benefits we wouldn’t have without them.

Here’s a little story for y’all since wordsmiths have come up on this page: When James Joyce taught English to French (or was it Italian?) children he taught them using this quote – All governments are pirates if you let them be pirates.

Just one more proof JJ was an incomparable genius – but I digress.

You know, it’s just almost too much to take to realize how gullible people are (and I think the more innocent they are the more gullible, personally):

USAmericans let their government be devoured by wealthpower giant pirates who’s own best interests (ultimately untrue but penultimately very true) stand in diametric opposition to the people’s best interests, those pirates then exhausted ingenuity finding ways to break the government (making it fail to be responsive to the needs and wants and best interests of the people), then the pirates point to the government they broke and say just look how broken it is – and now the pirates have convinced the gullible citizens to throw out their government instead of throwing out the pirates who broke it!!!

People? To fall for this trick is to harm yourself so you spare the pirates the trouble of having to harm you themselves! You CANNOT defeat an enemy that has an outpost in your own head, People!

Grover Norquist tricked people masterfully when he seduced them to narrowly focus on the size of government! Land SAKES, People – see through the RUSE already, will Yiz? Grover does everything he can to escalate economic inequality to extremes, hides from you the fact borne out by ALL HISTORY – that every empire has fallen when inequality was allowed to grow to extremes, empires choke on the bureaucracy that always grows as the economic inequality grows – so Grover and his ilk are the very cause of the wasteful bureaucracy he pretends to despise!

And the people never wise up to the game!

You want the absolute minimum possible amount of government bureaucracy?

It aint the SIZE of government that matters to your liberty, safety, prosperity, health, well-being, survival, happiness – it’s whether or not your government is effectively functioning to maximally preserve and promote the citizens’ best interests! Just ask yourself – would YOU give a rat’s ass what SIZE your government was if it was actually functioning to prevent your liberty being taken away, to protect everyone’s equal, inalienable rights…if it was actually delivering the benefits we seek when we constitute governments as necessary evils?

Can we PLEASE stop this self-disempowering foolishness of urging each other to throw the precious baby out with the dirty bathwater?!? VINCENT NUNES got it correct: it’s the treacherous elements within gov that need to at once be hurled to the trashcan! (Here’s a bigbig hint: you’re never going to guarantee government free from treacherous elements as long as the majority general human opinion is still stupidly in favor of the self-harming idea to allow insane all-grab-for-all economic dystems and against the sanity and justice idea of everybody getting out of the pool of wealth the amount they contributed by their own work, no more and no less.)

Can we PLEASE cease this futile wishing we could be released from our duty to watch our government like a hawk watches every move of a mouse? I KNOW it’s work that takes time, but I’m sorry to have to tell you there IS no way to escape that you gotta be willing to be vigilant! The alternative is sit back, shut up, and accept whatever SLAVERY others decide FOR you.

(NOTE HERE – i’m still waiting and working for my species to finally realize “Vigilant about WHAT” is the $64 trillion Mother of all questions that nobody but nobody is talking about yet…)

We really have been trained to slice our own throats. We humans have rowed our boat so far from the safe wharf of reality, I think it might be possible we’re never going to see that good wharf again.

Is this going to be Humanity’s epitaph?

“Here lies Humanity. Until the bitter end they believed they could safely pick and choose which bits of reality they were willing to face, but heartless reality bites everyone who gets reality wrong, and the bits of reality they refused to look at rendered them extinct.”

Take back your rightful earnings and your government, People! It’s your DUTY to yourself!

      3. Lashed but not leashed, I’m sorry to punctuate your certainty in this matter but you’re failing to realise a few points:

        1. Government, if it levies taxes, is the institutionalization of the initiation of force.
        2. Of course the initiation of force is presented as a regrettable means to a desirable end.
        3. As one wise man said, the means is the end.
        4. What kind of person do you think a monopoly on force appeals to?
        5. The answer is a psychopathic personality. Congratulations you have just set up a psychopath magnet, and equipped that magnet with bombs, armies and a monopoly on force – smart move.
        6. Do you think a psychopath will mind if you wave a placard at him on the street?
        7. When the psychopath sets up various departments in an effort to control every element of human activity, this costs money. Where does that money come from?
7.1 Taxes and money printing, with the latter really an indirect tax.
7.2 Therefore big government is the levying of citizens to fund their own enslavement. How.. civilized
        8. Your entire argument is based on a false notion – that intensive centralization of power and a monopoly on force is required for human beings to conduct themselves in a peaceful and mutually beneficial manner. Do you really believe that government is the same as governance, and that people are incapable of governing themselves in small, decentralised groups where direct accountability can be enforced and maintained.
        9. Government can play a useful role in terms of protecting private property rights and punishing those who violate them, which is the most frequent reason given for their legitimacy. Unfortunately they, with few exceptions, end up violating property rights and going unpunished. At least on the planet I live on.
        10. Inequality is a reality. There will always be inequality so long as their is inequality in human creative and problem solving capacity, as well as human motivation. That’s called diversity, and so long as it doesn’t lead to undue suffering, some of us thing it’s a fine thing. Interestingly, the pursuit of ephemeral quality typically leads to undue suffering.
        11. You do know that a number of estimates place the number of people murdered by governments in the 20th century at 250 million souls plus? How big does the pile of corpses actually need to be for you to factor it into your equation of the usefulness of government?

  3. An excellent post, James. Conflating all critical inquiries into the official narrative as a “conspiracy theory” puts serious and disciplined research into the same camp as chariots of the gods and lizard men from outer space.

But, thanks to the efforts of academics such as yourself, Peter Dale Scott, David Ray Griffin, Darius Rejali, Eric Wilson, Ola Tunander, Alfred W. McCoy, Stuart Ewen, Richard Cottrell, Ward Churchill, William Blum, Mark Crispin Miller, and a growing contingent of others, the containment lid is coming off.

That’s why mandarins like Cass Sunstein were called in, right? That’s why, as hybridrogue1 reminds us in another post, “Oppositional Defiant Disorder” is now a DSM 5 diagnosis. The more who have the veil lifted from their eyes, the more forceful the lies backed by state/corporate power compelling belief in them.

Though you may not have asked for the mantle you’ve been handed, you have become a lightning rod of hope to those who refuse to accept the lie. Thanks, once again, for your efforts!

    1. Please indicate which thread contains this post by hybridogue1. I have an interest in that particular ‘diagnosis,’ although I have to say the DSM is not the slightest bit scientific. Paula Caplan, PhD, wrote an expose on how the DSM is written, specifically from the angle of revealing the misogyny in its authors. At one point she and another male engaged in a war with two other ‘psychologists’ or psychiatrists (both female) who were trying to get the DSM to categorize female abuse survivors as masochists.

      1. Hi Sue. I provided a link from hybridrogue1’s name directly to his post.

The DSM, especially the DSM 5, I think has been shown quite clearly to have been drafted and approved by committees loaded with professionals directly sponsored by BigPharma.

  4. I obtained “above average” marks in school. The media is appealing to “average” Americans (which are the masses, I believe). If change is going to happen – if conspiracies are to be exposed – if there is to be an uprising of the masses against propaganda – then should we be communicating in such a fashion as to be easily understood by the masses?

    1. oh how i wish i had the time to properly address your savvy question, Lori. i’ve actually spent a lot of time thinking about it, and have thoughts both ways: aim the crucial educational efforts right at the people? or go for getting the bellwethers on board first, knowing the herd instinct will start to work for us instead of against us once the bellwethers get it and signal the herd to move to safer pastures. anyway, i’m glad you brought the subject up – very worth exploring imo.

      1. been thinking about it more, want to add this for your consideration, Lori: in another comment on another page i pointed out how helpful it is to our happiness to always keep reminding ourselves “I’m human. Humans are capable of getting their thinking wrong, of making errors in thought. It isn’t a rare event, it’s common. Look around. Not hard to spot humans getting it wrong a LOT. Let’s face it, we humans be smart except when we don’t be, and we be dumb except when we don’t be, too. This means the possibility that I’m getting my thinking wrong about (whatever subject) definitely does exist. Since I have no interest in staying with thinking that is erroneous, i shall keep myself open to re-examining my thinking, i’ll make it my habit to keep reminding myself “Hey, I COULD be making errors in my thinking”, and anyway I’ll remember that just because another guy is getting HIS thinking wrong, it doesn’t mean I’d be getting my thinking error-free just to adopt the opposite thinking from his. The correct thinking could lie somewhere between the extremes. and i’m also going to remind myself that we humans simply inherit most of the knowledge and ideas in our heads from generations who lived before us and made discoveries, etc. – it might be true that quite little of what i call my own thinking is really that at all – it’s stuff residing between my ears that i may never have actually applied my own conscious thought to at all…”

the point is, i think the very first thing that has to happen – whether we’re talking about building majorities by educating the bellwethers or the people directly – is that EVERYBODY has to be brought up from the level of needing to have certainties…needing to feel certain…we have to lift people up into capability and willingness to DOUBT or they’re never going to be able to start asking questions

i think maybe we poor humans are frightened,a bit terrified even, stranded on this planet like we are – we stare out into the vastness of space and we feel so impossibly small – we peer into the eternity of time stretching before and after us and we feel so insignificant – i think our world and our place in it seems incredibly uncertainto us – and that that may play into our ultimately self-harming strong need to have certainties – to feel certain

to tell you the truth, Lori – when i look around at my world with the topsoil going to zero in 60 years, food engineered to be less nutricious, the big nuclear accident being a statistical certainty not a probability, pay ranging a billion times what the work that produces the wealth ranges, when i see every present and future generation being forced to buy their first natural birthright to a place to put their feet off generations past, when i watch billionaires walk around in plain sight whilst whilst we continue tens of millions of children to starve every goddam day (hey humanity! how many einsteins and mozarts have you cheated yourselves out of, eh?!), when i watch governments get devoured by psychopaths in suits while the people either cheer or sit inert, when i see those wealthpower giants have the people believing they’re giving to the community when the fact they take profits by definition proves they take more off the community than they give, when i watch my fellow humans spend billions per year on war as entertainment, when i see our epic failure to prioritize correctly, when even the best thinkers write whole books about peace and justice and never once mention fairpay …when i see all these things and more…i think the human species has fallen right out of love with itself

        what do you think?

      2. Lori & lashed but not leashed: How many aware people do we need & to do what, exactly? I keep asking myself this. I spose the answer is that we need to begin to develop an alternative system that will be radically different. Only after we have some degree of consensus as to our goal are we likely to be successful in devising means of moving towards it. This process for all its grandiosity is not beyond the abilities of the America I know. The real difficulty is how to neutralize the banksters & other ruling elites who will otherwise hinder us every step of the way. The de-mystification of deep events and defense of our inquiry into them, as Professor Tracy is doing, may help in this so-necessary neutralization.

  5. The word ‘conspiracy’ is a mighty intriguing word when you break it down!!

Persuade (someone) to do or believe something, typically by use of a deception.

1.An instance of deceiving or tricking someone.
    2.A disadvantage.
    3.A convict.
4.A convention, esp. one for science-fiction enthusiasts.

Spear–sounds like the ‘(spir) acy’ in the word conspiracy

A weapon with a long shaft and a pointed tip, typically of metal, used for thrusting or throwing.

Pierce or strike with a spear or other pointed object.

    lance – javelin – pike

Lance from the Urban dictionary. (On the bright side it could be describing conspiracy theorists)…..smiles…

“Lance’s are the most incredibly rare creatures.

They have phenomenal personalities ; If you find one make sure you lock him up in your closet and swallow the key, cause they are people who will always be faithful and loyal 🙂 when you need them, they’ll always be there for you. They are easy to get along with :3 Through any bad situation, they can always make you smile with their funny sense of humor. If you let a Lance into your life they’ll brighten up your world ^^ Lances have immense beauty and are extremely talented in the arts. 🙂 They are passionate and can triumph through any obstacle in life no matter how hard the situation may be in, and some how are always able to have a smile on their face and willing to help others :]. They’ll be the best friend you’ll ever have :)) And as a lover, you are lucky with out a doubt, they are prefect in every way, for they are very caring and thoughtful, though others may see “faults”, you see perfection, you are not blinded but gifted to see who and what they are. so never let these people out of your life, for they are the most amazing people you could possibly meet. Lances will change your life forever.

Lance is a gem inside and out
This i’m sure without a doubt”

I thought this Urban dictionary definition of ‘lance’ quite pertinent to the ideation of ‘conspiracy theorists’ because of possibilities. Afterall the ‘sun’ is not selfish and shares the sky with the moon and notice that the ‘sun’ shines on the border of dark places (the shade) and has the wisdom to not enter that space…..it just shines a light around it. I think we call that bringing ‘transparency.’

Don’t mind me guys….I started to study conspiracy theories about twenty-two years ago. By consequence I had to learn how to live with my dictionary and thesaurus. By accident I became a ‘word-smith.’…lol…

Thanks Prof, another good injection of truth!!

    1. Thank you for taking the time to share this knowledge! It is very meaningful. I, also, laugh at the term “conspiracy theorist” as it has absolutely no relevance to those of us who question ALL forms of authority. It is utterly ridiculous to even use such a term because it implies that one must never believe what their eyes, ears and hearts show them.

I have had my own family use this term on me as though they even understood 1) What the term mean’t, 2) Where it originated, and 3) why they would even use such a demeaning descriptive on their own family member. I will have to say that using this term on me has not altered my understanding in any way. It appears that ther are more and more who are not easily intimdated by the employment of verbal abuse and bullying.
I have conviction that we can mature.

  6. I’m curious about your take on this particular line from the CIA report:

“Conspiracy on the large scale often suggested would be impossible to conceal in the United States.”

Isn’t this true? Can you either explain why it’s wrong (or misleading) or point to a good source that does?

    1. Reply to Warren: Large lies are harder to unmask than small ones. You typically accept or reject a new bit of knowledge depending upon how it fits w what you already “know”. So unmasking a really large
lie may require you to jettison important segments of your worldview. I mean you’d have to learn a really broad context of new material in order for you to accept the new bit of knowledge. “Impossible to conceal in the U.S.” presupposes a free press or at least universities which insist upon being open to views critical of authority or orthodoxy. But the corporate media fails to critically examine any sort of government statement & as we’ve just seen attacks those who do. Witness the attacks on anyone who questions global warming or the healthfullness of genetically modified food.

To actually research whether conspiracies exist & how broad they are a person should examine (preferably in some detail) a single conspiracy from the past which has now been resolved. In this category Gulf of Tonkin is good cuz there’s an official Congressional finding, hearings, etc. More recently, you can probably recall the impression the media gave about the post office woes. The media completely omitted mention of the legislation that forced the P.O. to set aside money to fund retirement benefits for the next 75 years– and to accomplish this w/in a decade. (To see an article and the Bill number search for it on GlobalResearch.ca site) This was a smaller conspiracy but still required connivance by Congress & the media. I suppose it’s to privatize the P.O.
For a book-length work on how conspiracies work, you might look at Webster Tarpley’s Synthetic Terror. It’s free on the internet. For a really good historical context of why the conspiracies are occurring I’d recommend a non-conspiracy, very readable author: William Engdahl. His latest is Myths, Lies & Oil Wars. Or , A Century of War– same author.
If you’re new to the idea that things are very different than the media presents them, I know it can seem crazy. Just look a little further before you rush to judgement.

    2. It is NOT at all true. It is merely one of the first shots in the dis-info propaganda war tactics of the CIA document.

Conspiracy by definition is hidden actions. It may be impossible to make people legally accountable for their part in a conspiracy, or even to place certain people into one. But all of the dropped details, all the things covered up – those are the ‘proof’. As long as the government or other powers keep stone-walling investigation and lying about what happened, nothing will every get to court, and nobody will be held accountable.

We’re all ingrained with some concept that only what gets through a court is valid as ‘truth’ – while the TRUTH is that courts are often more crooked than your local drug gangs. Prosecutors work agendas, make deals and often violate laws around sharing evidence and such in order to make themselves look better, judges do the same and are often bought, juries get fooled by what does and does not get through the evidence process, and most of us don’t even know about the Constitutional right of Jury Nullification any more. What’s worse, judges will give ‘orders’ to jurors that they MUST convict if the case against the defendant is proven – the opposite of the purpose and intent of Jury Nullification. (www.fija.org if you need more info on that topic.)

Today, most often, the truth is in the details ignored in the official versions. Just look at all the funky stuff around 9/11, or any of the public ‘mass shootings’, the illegal provision of guns to drug gangs in Mexico under the ATF’s Fast and Furious program, and even the TARP program. Conspiracies CAN BE proven in the US, because they ARE proven in the open (uncontrolled) media every day. What can’t happen is that we can’t get anyone into court over these events and cover-ups. I fear that ‘street justice’ will soon be considered necessary, and will result in some innocent folks being hurt.

  7. To those who have been and are researching conspiracies who are willing to do me a kind favor, please re-read just the very last paragraph of Professor Tracy’s latest above – and tell me whether or not you think he’s spot on there – and if so, please tell me what that MEANS to you. Thanks in advance if you will help me in this way. This is important. I’ll say why later.

      1. Thank you for kicking off the answers list, Kind Braveheart Terri. That’s exactly the kind of feedback I’m looking for. No right or wrong answers here, Friends – I’m just wanting to know what’s in your heads about this point, whatever it may be.

    1. Reply to lashed but not leashed:
He’s saying that demonizing & mocking criticism of authority or orthodox belief is truly dangerous. He cites some of the catastrophic results of it: evisceration of civil liberties & constitutional protections. He’s referring to the Patriot Act & NDAA. NDAA refers to legislation for the defense budget which includes amendments allowing the arrest & indefinite detention w/o any due process of American citizens upon the mere suspicion of terrorist activity. Further, terrorist activity is very vaguely defined, and the evidence against you can be secret (withheld from you). Senators were given the chance in floor debate to vote for an amendment exempting American citizens from the general terms of the amendment & they voted it down!
You see, it’s the job of the press to inform us about things like this & to criticize government when this sort of thing goes on, or at least to interview academics who criticize it. Most Americans are being successfully kept in the dark by the corporate media.

      1. Penelope, am i correct to take your reply(and thanks for it, of course) as saying the Prof is, yes, correct, and that to you this means the media is not doing their job? if i’m just being thick (thickheaded moment), can you clarify a bit more – especially the what it MEANS to you part?

    2. It is very clear to me that those educated in higher institutions have been indoctrinated. Truth be told, it begins in elementary school. What I am also very aware of is the “carrot stick” mentality of the average college graduate. As long as they are monetarily compensated ( as well as having their egos satiated ) the average “professional” will not only support the very system that has provided this dysfunctional and materialistic world-view but, also, the professional will engage in imposing restricitions upon their own person. They will not challenge perceived authority for fear of retribution through the loss of income, tenure or their personal postitions of authority. It is a self-monitoring mechanism put into place by those at the very top of these “Institutions”. Within such a structure one does not allow themselves freedom of interpretation much less thought.

What this means to me, personally, is that those who hold positions of perceived power, through training institutions, are the ones who stand to lose the most in challenging the very istitutions that have propelled them to their current status. They are complete slaves to the system therefore are highly resistant to any attempt to change their perception of the world and this has far reaching ramifications for those of us who have very little to lose materially.

I get the feeling that Tracey is subtly stating that there are few” professionals” who understand and know truth when they see it and hear it….or, at the very least, are unwilling to to state the obvious for fear of retribution. I think the obvious conclusion from such a statement is more than palpable….it has a pulse of it’s own.
This subject goes much deeper than what appears on the surface ,though. While it is apparent that FEMA camps a Police State,, Georgia Guidestones, the Patriot act, plastic coffins and surreal imagry at the Denver Airport exist, and are literal portends of a future reality, I find the implications are much more depressing than just losing one’s personal freedom, income or worldly position; it has everything to do with spiritual evolution and we have reached the end of a time for most souls. This is a period of recycling. These are the depressing implications for living such a spiritually defunct life. It is called’ Entropy’. Those in power have created a world of physicality and materialism that obfuscates the truth of who we truly are and what it is we are doing here. It has worked.

      1. Many thanks for your reply, Jamie. I’ll be rereading it with more care when i start to digest all the replies i get. I do want to mention one thing; your first sentence is imo overly-broad – i think maybe you meant to say ‘many’ or ‘most’ who get formal higher education are indoctrinated??

  8. If you look closely at the word ‘intimidation,’ there is no rule that says you cannot play around with that word. If you break that word down and look at ‘in/timid’ or expand it further to ‘inwardly/timid’ we can say the act of intimidating makes those receiving the intimidation, ‘inwardly timid.’

Showing a lack of courage or confidence; easily frightened.

    shy – timorous – bashful – sheepish – shamefaced

The prof is right on because such things as fear, lack of courage or confidence (conditioned/passivity) restricts the kind of mental growth and development that leads to active self-government (responsible for one’s own actions) and restricts the active civil duty each person should be contributing to their participation in society.

What does it mean to me? Well, each person has a civic duty to participate in creating a properly functioning society and when ‘aware’ of injustice, one is held responsible by a higher moral force to find a way to curb and stop any erosion to the pillars of principles which hold us up as society.

I hope this helps, it’s the only way I know to explain it….

    1. Know that it does indeed help, Bev. All replies from people who are being genuine will provide important help to me. Thank you for yours, Dear.

  9. Someone needs to do a FOIA request on the extent of DoD’s manipulation of social media as mentioned in The Guardian’s article; “Revealed: US spy operation that manipulates social media”

That’s an older article, and I haven’t’ read to much about it elsewhere, but it’s pretty obvious, from the “useful idiots” being duped into pushing talking points, to government employees themselves pushing pro-government ideology on a large scale, it’s going on on allot of websites.

  10. It’s interesting that there is mention of people dying in connection with the Kennedy assassination. Curious that they suggest they all died of natural causes. As I recall, Newsweek published, back in the early 70s, and issue dedicated to some couple dozen ‘Nixon enemies’ who had died either untimely or accidentally, all of them high-level political players. J. Edgar Hoover would probably be the name most recognizable – he died within a few weeks of telling Nixon he would not use the FBI to spy on Americans simply for opposing the war in Viet-Nam. LBJ also died ‘suddenly’ after announcing that he was considering coming out of retirement to run for POTUS once again, and against Nixon.

There is also a really long list of dead folks who were connected to the Clintons, and most of them clearly killed. Just search online for ‘clinton body count’ or ‘dead people connected to Bill Clinton’ for details – the list is too long to paste here.

And of course, once again, nobody got to court over any of these, mostly due to stonewalling, lost evidence (look up Vince Foster’s death), and allegations of ‘conspiracy theory’.

  11. lovechild, what on earth is this, and what is it doing here? you’ve given zero information, provided zero context. result? it’s meaningless clutter. care to clarify?

  12. James, thank you so much for the article about the official, premeditated use of “conspiracy theory”. Useful to know. Please let us know what you think of the following I just found:
It includes a screenshot of the record. Was put up by Cory Minot. This is the sort of thing that we need to be cautious about accepting. Could be a hoax, not necessarily by the poster. The sort of thing that makes us lose credibility if false. I wonder how SS would have found out about a death. If there were a traffic accident, for eg, that killed him & mom, would the bureaucracy automatically inform SS? My only experience is that when a friend died of natural causes we had to phone SS to stop sending SS checks. I think one of the ways SS fraud is committed is failure to report a death. (Used to be anyway. Perhaps doctors & medical examiners now have a legal responsibility to report it.)

    1. So I followed your link Penelope, and that doesn’t even look like the same kid in the photos we’ve been seeing. close, but this kid looks healthy, and that other ‘person’ looks like he’s a genuine speed freak.

I was almost willing to believe that the ’13th’ date was a mere typo – but the ‘New Hampshire’ thing on both records is pretty weird. It does make me wonder if the records are faked or not, and I just don’t have the time to check.

      1. Dave & Bev: The noncartoon pic of Adam Lanza has been present on the web from the cate of the incident & on many sites. Circulation of the loony B&W shot I have always assumed was to bolster the idea that he was nuts. I think it’s noncontroversial that both Adam & mom were born in NH, moved to CT later. The Comments to the link I gave above say that the GenealogyBank downloads from SS & another Comment says he’s been monitoring it for the appearance of Adam’s death record, etc.
But, still at the same link, just under the screenshot, is a Daily Mail excerpt which cites Nancy’s visit to NH 12/11-12/13, complete w hotel & checkout time. Hope others will check out this link more thoroughly. Let me know what you think.

  13. GenealogyBank is a pay website. If you check its history, a paying member can create an article with their help.
The picture of Adam Lanza circulated by the Media is according to sources Adam at 13. The picture you see there is an older Adam Lanza according to sources.
    It could be faked!

    1. Penelope – your reply makes me think that either you misunderstood me, or I am misunderstanding you. I didn’t mean to question the photos’ identities as I’m not qualified to do that – I was only remarking on the differences. I’m now wondering if the ‘nutter photo’ of Lanza was perhaps not him? It’s well documented that MKUltra used to kidnap kids off the street for mind control experiments. Is it possible the ‘nutter’ was one of them, drugged up, triggered to do the deed, and substituted for the boy who died somewhere else a few days prior?

  14. No mis-communication Penelope-we are on the same page-its cool!! I’m just adding detail….

I have always questioned the Media using that particular picture as if to bolster the Mental Health claims.

Now this is what I question about this new story: we are suppose to believe that somehow Adam Lanza died on the 13th. That would leave his Mother alive because the site says she died the 14th and again you see ‘proof.’ According to reports from the Dad he received news of Adam’s death by a reporter who showed up at his house on the 14th.

So are we to think that very much alive Nancy called nobody, no family and did not report the death to the police. Like any Mother, regardless of the fact that Adam would be dependent on her she would have loved him and been tremendously in shock.

The Media is usually all over news bites like that and all too eager to continue pushing the idea that humans are no more advanced than the ape they descended from. One could be tempted to go even deeper into the sinister just by saying Nancy Lanza called the police and they decided to hide it and then killed her. I mean it would just get crazier, wouldn’t you think??

To me the story seems twisted and leaves much to question. We might need Sherlocke for this one….smiles..

    1. I think that all we can do is to keep picking at the loose threads. Maybe some day we’ll get to the truth. Maybe not – Kennedy was 50 years ago, 9/11 was a dozen, and the truth isn’t accepted for either as yet.

  15. BEV: good point. If she knew about his death.
Amazing how little we do know– except that a lot is being hidden. Unlike Dr. Carver I hope it does come crashing back down on their heads.
Did you hear? According to Dr. Jim Garrow, Nobel Peace nominee for his organization Pink Pagoda which rescues unwanted girl babies in China, Obama is now using a litmus test to determine whether he keeps his military leaders: WHETHER THEY WOULD FIRE UPON THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Dr. Garrow’s source is a high-ranking military officer, necessarily anonymous. The story is on PressTV at the “US Desk.” Apparently he posted it on Facebook too.

I wonder if the corporate media will dismiss him as a conspiracy theorist. No, probably just try to kill it with silence.

Maybe we should try to wander back to the topic, by discussing how to maintain credibility when you’re dismissed as a conspiracy theorist.

  16. I’ll be brief, as I’m skirting the realm of off-topic.

For those who are still thinking Oswald was a shooter, they subconsciously believe he chose to work at the Book Depository in order to secure an ideal vantage point. How did Oswald know in advance the President was going to visit Dallas? Better yet, how did he know in advance the parade route would pass by the Book Depository?

Answer: He didn’t. Only the Secret Service knew or could affect those details.

  17. Interesting.. thanks for sharing this. It would be interesting to have a list of journalists who have “connections” to the CIA and other intelligence agencies of our government. I know of two: The late William F. Buckley (this broke my heart) and Anderson Cooper ( he interned with the CIA).

    1. There is Carl Bernstein’s 1977 Rolling Stone article. Also, Prof. Marc Crispin Miller has a volume coming out shortly, titled, “The CIA and the Media.” The title has been delayed several times and is due out in May. Given the proliferation and privatization of intelligence activities, especially post-9/11, the problem is likely several fold greater than it once was.

      1. JAMES: Journalists are so heavily implicated in CFR that I’ve nearly written off the broadcast media anyway. Amy Goodman seems uniformly wrong on foreign policy. Her Libyan correspondent actually said she hadn’t noticed any bombing damage in Tripoli– after 110 US cruise missiles and days of airstrikes. The only good foreign policy item was Ramsay Clark’s disclosure of advance Pentagon plans for regime change in 7 mideast/African countries. It’s a great pity about Amy Goodman. I’ll add “The CIA & the Media” to my books-to-buy list. Thank you for the tip

  18. Hi Penelope, thanks for additional news for me to examine.

About conspiracy theory, allow me to use the analogy of ‘a building has a foundation, which is the part of it that is underground and cannot be seen.’

A conspiracy theorist is the person who decides that what has been constructed to manifest (what we see) makes no sense and realizes the unseen foundation is important and begins the task of understanding connections> the architects design and construction (the plan or plot) and has to connect to all the players like the engineer (the scheme of the project), the electrician (how information is transfered and received), the plumber (installs connections), the carpenter (making the structure), the stone mason (work affecting what appears), the window installer (understands importance of making an impression) and on and on.

After all my years of study and research I condensed everything down to one core fundamental:

We have been subverted unknowingly into a science of death that is contrary to any impulse to life. What has come out of this subversion is anti-life but wraps itself around pro-life slogans thereby making itself obscure and falsely appearing as pro-life.

This can be discerned (a spiritual faculty) in events:

*Media interviews glorify ‘death’ by wrapping itself around ‘celebration of a life.’
*Security drills elevate to ‘terrorizing participants’ by wrapping itself around the idea that there will be a future threat and nobody is safe. This is anti-life ideation.
*In television reports ‘words’ are carefully crafted; think of the video from the air where it is shown everyone standing, calmly walking around in the aftermath of a massacre. Because the unfolding situation is in reality ‘chaos’ the ‘standing around’ is described by the air viewer as ‘chaos’ affecting the perception of the TV viewer.

Now here is a simple one to further understanding:

*The stop-smoking movement achieved ‘control over people’s decision-making possibilities’ by wrapping around the pro-life idea ‘its not healthy.’ This works under pushing ‘the fear of death’ which is pro-death, which is anti-life. What did it achieve?
A new money-making marketing field so they profit from the smoking and then profit from new stop-smoking gadgets. The fact they have taken control of any person’s decision-making possibilities is lost in how big the movement actually builds itself.
The end-result produced ‘for smoking’ and ‘against smoking’ which is a division in the people or dividing society.

We have been subverted into ‘prevention tactics’ which come about by engineering social movements which change a society, divide a society and influences how a society functions. Prevention tactics are pro-death because they focus on ‘impending injury and death.’ The tactics are anti-life because they thrust the impulse to live into anxiety, fear, high levels of apprehension, emotional panic, states of feeling insecure, fatalistic perception, distrust of others, etc. We are living through a ‘culture of domination’ which ‘deters the drive to search and the restlessness and creative power which characterizes life, it kills life.’ (Paulo Freire, The Pedagogy of the Oppressed, pg. 60)

What dies in this process? Trust and faith and if they dissolve away, the boundaries that ensure ‘privacy’ break down. Trust and faith are the basis to not just life but also the basis of society and this is concerning national temperament and collective opinion which exists for the ‘estimation of the value of existence and the value of human life.’

“Only society (as a whole) can pass a collective opinion on the value of human life. (Emile Durkheim)

“Without sophistry, society may generalize its own feeling as to itself, its state of health or lack of health. For individuals share too deeply in the life of society for it to be diseased without their suffering infection. What it suffers, they necessarily suffer. Because it is the whole, its ills are communicated to its parts. Hence it cannot disintegrate without awareness that the regular conditions of general existence are equally disturbed. (Emile Durkheim, quote from ‘Society In Question,’ pg 71

The clever use of arguments which seem true but are really false

“Since we are society’s handiwork, society cannot be conscious of its own decadence without the feeling that henceforth this work is of no value. Thence are formed currents of depression and disillusionment emanating from no particular individual but expressing society’s state of disintegration.” (Emile Durkheim)

    Prevention tactics are sophistry!

    I apologize for being lengthy…..

  19. BEV: I’ll have to read it again when I’m not so sleepy and can do it justice.
Your comments about the spiritual, pro-life /pro-death aspect of what’s happening to the culture remind me of something Iran’s Ahmadinejad said in a UN speech. This is the speech where he states publicly that there are two other theories about how 9/11 happened in addition to the official one (Made it happen & Let it happen). William Engdahl’s A Century of War has greatly opened my worldview to the reality of how the British Empire and now the American one ceasely pursue geopolitical advantage. Both look for ways to weaken other nations in case they might become future rivals for power & all our interventions in the middle east are to deny China a secure oil supply.
As a result of my new knowledge of the prevalence of geopolitical/ grand chessboard game I’d begun to wonder if perhaps this sort of machination might be inevitable. So recently when I came across this video of Ahmadinejad’s speech I felt some of the words helped me to defend myself from such an anti-life conclusion. He was quoting an Iranian poet & it was something like this:
People are not rivals, but companions
Those who seek their happiness in but the sorrow of others
And their welfare & safety but in the insecurity of others
Those who see themselves as superior to others
are out of the path of humaniy and are in evil’s course.

  20. Thank you Penelope, I could not have ask for a better reply. We have just made a credible point that conspiracy theory is really one heck of alot of intense enquiry on the part of enquiring minds….
