JFK, Mass Media, and the Origins of ‘Conspiracy Theory’

Prefatory Note on Censorship in Academe

This study was written in 2013-14 as part of my academic research as Associate Professor of Media Studies at Florida Atlantic University. I have had numerous papers addressing news coverage of historical events published in academic journals over the past two decades. However, this was the first attempt to offer a scholarly treatment of a research object related to a conspiracy–how the news media “framed” New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison’s JFK assassination inquiry.

When I presented the paper at the Association For Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Montreal Conference in 2014 the panel respondent congratulated me on what he deemed to be a very well-researched and written manuscript. He further remarked that it was at most a draft or two away from submission for editorial review at a scholarly journal. I was also confident the study would eventually achieve publication.

The paper was subsequently rejected by five journals out-of-hand. The editors refused to even send the paper out for review, which never occurred to me before. Notably, each editor provided a different reason for not wanting to give it further consideration. What is more, three of the venues had published my work in previous years. The paper nevertheless offers a timely contribution to understanding the historical origins of the term “conspiracy theory” and its development from perhaps the most momentous event in 20th century American politics.

This helped me to further realize how despite celebrated notions of unbridled inquiry and academic freedom, certain subjects so historically central to the nation’s history in fact remain taboo among academics–those entrusted by society to research such matters–vis-á-vis their counterparts in professional journalism, with both camps still proceeding in tacit agreement to police the boundaries of permissible discourse and thought. -JFT

Introduction

“It appears that certain elements of the mass media have an active interest in preventing this case from ever coming to trial at all and find it necessary to employ against me every smear device in the book.” –Jim Garrison (Playboy 1967)

The news media’s failure to interrogate and question the “the lone assassin” theory by the 1964 Presidents Commission on the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, otherwise known as the Warren Commission, should be recognized as one of the greatest episodes of journalistic misconduct in US history. The mass media have played a pivotal role in the coverup of the Kennedy (JFK) assassination that they unabashedly practice to this day. New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison’s investigation of the November 22, 1963 event was the first substantial challenge to the official narrative. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) countered Garrison’s efforts by calling upon its media assets to directly attack, defame, even sabotage the inquiry.

From this episode the CIA developed one of its most potent psychological weapons against political dissent: the “conspiracy theory” label. Over its 50-year lifespan the label has time and again demonstrated its effectiveness in policing the public sphere by calling into question the credibility and even the sanity of journalists, academics, or any other public figure that dares question authorized myths for the masses.

The “Wrap Up Smear”

Made Possible By Dead-on Arrival News Media

A CSPAN video from 2017 that surfaced in early October depicts Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi explaining how to defame someone via the “wrap up smear.”

“You smear somebody with falsehoods and all the rest, and then you merchandise it.”

“The difference,” Pelosi continues, “is we don’t engage in the politics of personal destruction.” While she suggests this is a Republican Party tactic, her own party is the most  prolific source of late in the “wrap up smear’s” deployment.

This manipulation of public opinion toward a specific object is  accomplished in de facto coordination with a news media that simply don’t check the facts or circumstances surrounding allegations.

Trump Derangement Syndrome: The View From My Facebook Account

Anti-White Male Professors Gone Wild

Fake News Media Push ‘Radical Scholars” Buttons

Warning: Extreme Profanity

The bizarre and unfounded allegations of Palo Alto University Professor Christine Blasey Ford concerning Supreme Court nominee Brent Kavanaugh is causing an acute outbreak of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), a particular type of behavioral disorder caused by the nationalistic, politically incorrect, and often irreverent US presidential incumbent.

This specific manifestation of TDS is evidenced as outrage over Kavanaugh’s alleged 36-year-old high school exploits, in contrast to his outstanding academic qualifications and professional achievements. Despite the profuse number of holes in Blasey Ford’s testimony and her deep state pedigree, even the very highly-educated Left embrace her without reservation.

Disputing Gov’t Narratives Now Limited to YouTube Comments Section

#FakeNewsMedia’s Rearguard Sandy Hook Propaganda

YouTube content providers can no longer publish videos deemed controversial by owners of the Youtube platform without experiencing financial censorship or outright banning. This has been experienced most recently by the popular YouTube channel, Lift the Veil.

Thus user dissent has been relegated to the Comments sections of videos, where vibrant discussion of government-endorsed propaganda still thrives, at least for the moment.

As we’ve repeatedly demonstrated at MHB (i.e. here, here, and here) GoogleGestapo, Youtube, Facebook, PayPal and even WordPress.com are today’s thought police, actively suppressing many ideas or expressions disputing government-endorsed official narratives of complex events. Content that is trivial or reinforces such storylines, on the other hand, are placed on a pedestal and receive wide distribution.

Truth Is Evaporating Before Our Eyes

Does anyone notice?

By Paul Craig Roberts

On September 17, I posted my column, “Evidence is no longer a Western value.” I used as an example the blame that has been put on Russia for the shot down Malaysian airliner. No evidence whatsoever exists for the accusation, and massive evidence has been presented that the airliner was shot down by the neonazis that seized power as a result of the Washington-organized coup in Ukraine.

Blame was fixed on Russia not by any evidence but by continuous evidence-free accusations that began the moment the airliner was shot down. Anyone who asked for evidence was treated as a “Putin apologist.” This took evidence out of the picture.

Wherever we look in these times, we see evidence-free accusations established as absolute facts: Saddam Hussein’s “weapons of mass destruction,” “Iranian nukes,” “Russian invasion of Ukraine,” the Trump/Putin conspiracy that stole the 2016 US presidential election, Syrian use of poison gas. Not a scrap of evidence exists for any of these accusations, but the truth of the accusations is established in many minds worldwide.

Brittany Maynard, My Undead Niece

(another Orange County zombie chick)

by Alison Maynard

Editor’s Note: This provocative article, originally published in 2015 on Maynard’s blog, therealcolorado.blogspot.com, examines a potential case of death fraud involving the author’s niece, Brittany Maynard. In 2014 Maynard was caught in an existential struggle with brain cancer and thus opted to move from California to Oregon, where physician-assisted suicide is legal. The research and analysis of her alleged demise are especially significant as they point to a pseudocide that, if valid, is directly related to achievement of a specific ideational (and likely deep state/Globalist) public relations objective: the cultural normalization and acceptance of what is effectively self murder under the auspices of professional medicine and “personal empowerment.”

At present euthanasia is legal in four countries and assisted suicide in four more. In the United States assisted suicide is legal in eight states, with California approving the practice in the wake of Maynard’s purported death. Of course, public acquiescence of such an act comprises a slippery “bioethical” slope. If ending one’s life in the event of terminal disease becomes acceptable practice, can one also opt to kill oneself to “save” the planet from “climate change,” or prevent the extinction of certain exotic species? Will we one day become overwhelmed by despair and be able to “”return to the home of the God” a la “Sol” Roth’s character in Soylent Green? In the end the question becomes, What is human life? The stakes are profound when considered beyond the narrow confines of “individual choice,” which, as demonstrated in the case of Brittany Maynard and subsequent “#IWanttheOption” activists, is clearly how certain interests seek to frame this issue.

In October 2014, a story flooded media outlets everywhere around the world about the tragedy of Brittany Maynard, a 29-year-old with an aggressive brain tumor known as Glioblastoma multiforme, who had decided to commit assisted suicide in Oregon under Oregon’s “Death with Dignity” law.

I learned about it from a post on I read on this very blog–and my jaw dropped.  Brittany is my niece, but has been estranged from our family for several years.  Her mother, Debbie Ziegler, and my brother divorced in around 1987, when Brittany was three.

I have investigated “Brittany’s suicide,” and have proof that it did not occur and Brittany is not dead.  The event was a psy op perpetrated by the CIA-controlled media on the public, to expand availability of assisted suicide.  This is the more clear now, seeing Debbie giving press conferences at the California legislature in favor of such a bill, along with Dan Diaz, Brittany’s putative husband.  No truly grieving parent or husband would be able to do this.
