Broward Sheriff Scott Israel Meets With Veteran Florida Lobbyist Ron Book

Book’s Daughter Sits on Commission Investigating Parkland Shooting

Israel Accuses Reporter of “Bullying”

In a rare display of South Florida news media committing true journalism and going after a corrupt public official–Democratic Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel.

Miami’s ABC affiliate WPLG News10 reports that Israel, who is under fire after an overwhelming no-confidence vote, recently wined and dined with “one of the most powerful lobbyists in Tallahassee,” Ron Book.

Book’s daughters, State Senator Lauren Book, sits on the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission that is in charge of investigating the Parkland school massacre.

From WPLG News10:

After an overwhelming no-confidence vote by his deputies’ union and with investigators — from both the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Gov. Rick Scott’s public safety commission — looking into his actions after his agency’s failures in Parkland, Israel may need all the protection he can get.

“Everything is on the line right now,” said union chief Jeff Bell, who led the no-confidence vote and is encouraging Scott to suspend Israel from his post, alleging incompetence and neglect of duty.

The clouds surrounding BSO could explain the sheriff’s meeting with lobbyist Ron Book Tuesday night at J. Alexanders in Plantation. Book is one of the most powerful lobbyists in Tallahassee and has the ear of the governor, who has said he will decide whether or not to suspend Israel when the FDLE investigation into the BSO response to Parkland is completed.

Presenting a more serious potential conflict of interest for Israel is the fact that Book’s daughter, Sen. Lauren Book, sits on the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission, which is also investigating the shooting and BSO.

When reporter Bob Norman asked Israel about the meeting the Sheriff was visibly perturbed, refused to answer Norman’s questions, and stated that he was the victim of “bullying and disrespect.”

WPLG appears to be the only news outlet reporting on Israel’s behind-the-scenes maneuvering with the veteran lobbyist who’s related to a state official on the Marjory Stoneman Commission. To date no South Florida news outlet has covered two unusual deaths of Broward Sheriff’s Deputies under Israel’s command.

Parkland Shooting: Police Reports State Broward Deputies Cowered As Massacre Ensued

“Already on Scene”, “Hid Behind Cars and a Tree”, Knew Where Shooter Was

Numerous Broward County Sheriff’s Deputies under the command of Scott Israel stood down for several minutes as 17 students and educators at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were shot to death and numerous others were injured by Nikolas  Cruz, according to police reports released by the Coral Springs Police Department.

The documents released earlier this week came at a time when deputies delivered a resounding vote of “no confidence” to Sheriff Israel, who took office in 2013. The reports contradict Israel’s assertions days after the shooting that blamed at Parkland School Safety Officer Scot Peterson who allegedly failed to engage Cruz.

According to the Miami Herald:

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were taking cover behind cars and a tree as they responded to the worst school shooting in Florida history — even though one deputy said he knew where the shooter was, according to an officer report released Tuesday by the Coral Springs Police Department.

“I was advised by an unknown BSO Deputy taking cover behind a tree, ‘he is on the third floor,’ ” wrote Coral Springs officer Bryan Wilkins in a report recounting his arrival at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14 and his subsequent actions to try to find the shooter and save lives.

Another Coral Springs cop who arrived at Stoneman Douglas within minutes of the shooting, Sgt. Nick Mazzei, confirmed that he saw BSO deputies “taking positions” outside the school and rushed past them, according to a report he filed that was also released Tuesday.

“Watchdog” Seeking to Allay Suspicion Over Broward Deputy Jason Fitzsimons’ Death Has Possible Links to CIA

Longtime defender of official narratives and liberal “fact check” site Snopes.com gave MemoryHoleBlog some faint praise in an April 18, 2018 post addressing the viral news of Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Fitzsimons’ unusual death.

Snopes made the argument that blogs reporting on the untimely death of Fitzsimons jumped too quickly on the bandwagon that his death was the result of a conspiracy, and did so without any actual followup. Bloggers can often “jump the gun” and run with stories that smack of trickery, failing to more carefully assess the facts and circumstances. Within these specific parameters we agree with Snopes, particularly since most blogs that carried our initial story on Deputy Fitzsimons failed to even acknowledge our subsequent post. As Snopes points out,

But these blogs did not mention Memory Hole’s follow-up story, which noted that Fitzsimons had used several different Facebook accounts, and that the account featuring the post criticizing Hogg had not been “scrubbed” and was accessible online at press time.

That being said, the fact that Snopes is the only above-the-board “mainstream” outlet (part of Facebook’s censor squad) to have addressed Fitzsimons’ death and is out to put the “conspiracy theories” to rest is enough to give one pause. In 2016 investigative journalist Wayne Madsen noted that Snopes.com is a “go-to website for CIA propaganda.” According to Madsen,

Broward Sheriff Scott Israel Receives Landslide ‘No Confidence’ Vote

Really About “Extorting Pay Raise”, Israel Says

Editor’s Note/Update: It appears that the untimely and curious death of Deputy Jason Fitzsimons may have played a role in Broward deputies’ clear discontent with Scott Israel, something the story below does not delve into. The Deputies’ union association president, Deputy Jeff Bell, stated prior to the vote that the union is accusing Sheriff Israel of

“many instances of suspected malfeasance, misfeasance, failure to maintain fiduciary responsibility by the sheriff, failure to properly investigate possible criminal conduct by members of his senior command staff and the lack of leadership that has crushed morale throughout the agency.” (Emphasis added.]

As many MHB readers know, there has been a complete corporate media blackout of Fitzsimons’ death and the unusual circumstances surrounding it.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel’s image-rebuilding effort took a major hit Thursday when 85 percent of the deputies who voted in the International Union of Police Associations, Local IUPA 6020, electronic balloting used their votes to say they want Israel gone.

Israel’s only ray of light in the union count is the no-show total: The number of deputies who didn’t vote outnumbered the ones who did. Of a 1,300-member roster, the union received back ballots from 628 deputies — 534 of them expressing their dissatisfaction.

On Friday, April 20, the union local sent out electronic ballots. Members were asked to lodge their collective opinion on Israel’s future following tempestuous months within their ranks as a result of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Israel had become a lightning rod in the weeks after the tragedy, at first appearing as a media fixture, later becoming the focus of negative speculation. As evidence emerged of inaction taken by his deputies during the shooting, and his department failing to intervene with the shooter after numerous visits to his home, Israel was eventually viewed as the sheriff whose inadequate leadership had let his troops down.

Jason Fitzsimons’ Social Media Presence

Deputy Appeared to Operate Two Facebook Pages

By James F. Tracy

Our April 9 report of Broward Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Fitzsimons’ April 1, 2018 passing generated considerable online interest. This followup is intended to clarify the initial story based on observations of Fitzsimons’ social media activity and what we now recognize as the deputy’s dual Facebook pages that contain differing information.

First and foremost, Deputy Fitzsimons’ Facebook account was not “scrubbed,” as previously reported. Rather, Fitzsimons had no less than three Facebook pages–one of which was initiated in January 2016.

Further, a second Facebook page overlooked in our initial report in fact contains Fitzsimons’ politically-oriented posts that tend to make his untimely passing suspect, and as of this writing these political posts or images can still be viewed on the page in question.

Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy Dead at 42

Second Amendment Proponent, Criticized
Marjory Stoneman’s Gun Control Cavalcade

Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Fitzsimons, 42 years of age

By James F. Tracy

Sometime on or around April 1, 2018 Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Fitzsimon, 42 years old and in excellent state of mind and health, called in sick to his job. Shortly thereafter Fitzsimons was found dead on his sofa. There has been a complete “news blackout” of this curious and untimely death.

Deputy Fitzsimons wasn’t just any law enforcement officer. Unlike many of his peers, he took to social media to question the potential agenda behind the February 14 Marjory Stoneman High School mass shooting, suggesting that the event was being used to promote the Democratic Party’s gun control platform in anticipation of the 2018 midterm elections. And recent personnel decisions involving public officials indicate (e.g. here and here), an unwritten law of taxpayer-funded institutions is that employees disavow and steer clear of “conspiracy theories” that may call their superiors motives into question.

One post found on Fitzsimon’s Facebook page depicts the Parkland massacre’s main spokesperson, David Hogg, in National Socialist regalia, with the caption, “We will March Until We Disarm Every American.”

Fitzsimons Facebook page has since been “scrubbed” of any 2018 posts, which would of course include those that may be calling the the Parkland shooting or its aftermath into question.
